Which vehicles are subject to mandatory technical inspection?

Vehicles participating in road traffic and registered by territorial bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine are subject to mandatory technical inspection in accordance with Article 35 of the Law of Ukraine "On Road Traffic".

What is the frequency of mandatory technical inspection?

  • for passenger cars used for commercial transportation of passengers or cargo with a service life of more than two years — every two years;
  • for trucks regardless of ownership form with a carrying capacity of up to 3.5 tons, and trailers to them with a service life of more than two years — every two years;
  • for trucks with a carrying capacity of more than 3.5 tons, trailers to them, and taxis regardless of the service life — annually;
  • for buses and specialized vehicles transporting dangerous goods, regardless of the service life — twice a year.

What are the legal grounds for conducting mandatory technical inspection?

Attention to entities conducting mandatory technical inspection of vehicles

Mandatory technical inspection of a vehicle is carried out after its visual inspection for the purpose of vehicle identification, verification of identification numbers and license plates with registration document data, and checking completeness. A fully equipped vehicle, filled with operating fluids (according to the manufacturer's operating documentation), without layers of dirt that could affect the results of its technical condition check, is accepted for mandatory technical inspection.

The contractor performs photo recording of the mandatory technical inspection process, of which the customer is notified. Photo recording of the mandatory technical inspection process is carried out by the contractor during the external inspection of the vehicle, capturing:

  • the front and left or right side of the vehicle;
  • testing of switched-on low beam headlights and fog lights (if present);
  • testing of the brake system using roller brake tester methods and general view of the vehicle on the brake tester, license plate, and switched-on brake lights;
  • odometer readings.

Photo recording materials must ensure clear identification of the make, color, and license plate of the vehicle. The photos must include the date of photo recording, which must correspond to the date of issue of the technical condition check certificate.

For proper transmission of the photo recording results of the technical condition check process, the size of each photo must not exceed 300 KB, with a resolution equal to 640 x 480 dpi, and in JPEG format.
